Under blue skies with a slight ocean breeze, close to 200 artists set up their tents to show their wares and celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the St Augustine Art Associations annual Fall Art and Craft Festival. The weather was more than perfect as thousands took to the fair grounds on Francis Field to begin their holiday shopping.

“This has been a great weekend,” said Josh Price of Contrived Curiosities, one of the many artist displaying their work this weekend. Price, a automotive collision repair technician began creating sculpture out of other people’s discards. Yard creatures, spark plug dragonflies and unique creatures made from gears, metal and other unique objects could be found at the Contrived Curiosities booth.

The King Arthur Baking for Good truck was parked and handing out homemade cookies collecting donations to share with the St Augustine Art Association T.O.U.C.H. Art Garden. Gamble Rogers Music was once again on stage providing the music for the weekend and Ancient City Slickers tuba player announced the king and queen like only a tuba player can…Ta-Da!

This special anniversary event had the St Augustine Royal Family on hand to celebrate and pass out the awards. Dressed in their royal attire, the king and queen took to the stage with their royal entourage following behind them. A reading of the proclamation in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the St Augustine Art Association’s annual Fall Art and Craft Festival was read to the crowd by Royal Lady, Michelle Reyna. The Best In Show winner was Michelle McDowell-Smith, Mixed Media of Jacksonville, Fl. She was awarded a $1000.00 check which was sponsored by Millennium Home Design. A royal visit by the king and queen to the winners booths capped off the afternoon for the artists.

The success of this years event took over 150 St Augustine Art Association volunteers. With this event we are reminded once again the importance of the arts in this community and what can be accomplished with dedicated art community members.
