Little Big Town “Crush” The St Augustine Amphitheater

Little Big Town 2015 (61) (800x600)

Welcome Little Big Town

It’s Just A Girl Crush

As the set went dark at the St Augustine Amphitheater on Saturday night a hush came over the sold out crowd. Suddenly, in the blink of an eye,a strobe of fire and the words “Pain Killer” flashed across the big screens as the favorite country foursome Little Big Town took to the stage. Jimi Westbrook, Karen Fairchild, Phillip Sweet and Kimberly Schlapman, the foursome of Little Big Town, made the magic happen all night long and proved what professionals they truly are.

Dressed in sparkle, leather and Levi’s, this four-piece powerhouse came into view and ignited the stage to the cheers and applause of the audience. Having been together for over 15 years, the album “Pain Killer” is their sixth studio album following their 2012 smash hit “Tornado.” Peaking at number three on the US Top Country Albums chart, Pain Killer is packed with original songs and amazing talent of the foursome.

Karen Fairchild sings her heart out.

With Karen Fairchild strutting around the stage in her sequin pants, she dug down deep and belted out “Day Drinking” making sure every worker understood the meaning of the song. The acapella version of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” gave the audience another perspective of the group. Their four-part harmony with precisely layered voices took the audience to another level and brought the loudest cheer of the evening.

Take me down to the “Little White Church,” lit up the audience and the guitar strumming was filled with attitude, grit and get-along country. The sway of the audience was methodical as everyone joined in to sing along.

Kimberly Schlapman shouted out in a southern drawl.

Knowing just how to connect with their audience, Kimberly Schlapman shouted out in a southern drawl, “St Augustine you-all packed this house…Thank You! Thank you for having us here!”
With the command to “Show your cell phones and light up the night,” by Phillip Sweet, the audience raised their cell phones high, reminding us all what a change there has been from 1975 to 2015. No more lighters to light the night and show camaraderie and appreciation.

With blue lights igniting the stage, the talent was once again realized as the band sang “Your Side of the Bed.” With Westbrook and Fairchild eventually taking to the front of the stage, singing nose to nose, a unique and heartfelt duet.

Could be a girl crush

Little Big Town did not disappoint with their encore performance, under the sparkle of an old fashioned mirror ball. The audience erupted in hoots and hollers as the band came back to perform their smash hit “I Got A Girl Crush.” The soul in Fairchild’s voice is felt right to the heart as she sang the thought provoking lyrics. The song is about a woman who is jealous of the woman who took her man away and is sung with gut-wrenching feeling. The album “Pain Killer” is up for numerous award by the Country Music Association this year and after seeing their live performance, rightfully so.

You can honestly say the audience left satisfied. As ladies in cowgirl hats and cowgirl boots and men in Levi’s and cowboy boots sauntered out of this amazing venue into the cool night air, there was a smile on every face and a tune on every lip. LBT did it again and should sweep the CMA’s this year.
