A Special Commission Workshop will be held at SAB City Hall at 5:00 on June 30th. The meeting will focus on the LDR, Comprehensive Plan, Vision Plan as well as a review of the Charter. With many new construction projects taking place within the St Augustine Beach area, many citizens and city staff feel this is a much needed workshop. Northeast Florida Regional Council was hired to look at the land development regulations.

Along with the new hotels along A1A Beach Boulevard, the city has also experienced an increase in building of single family homes. In November 2013 and ordinance was passed to reduce the setbacks on residential lots from 10 to 7 1/2 feet and reduce front and back setbacks from 25 to 20 feet. Concerned citizens have noticed that with the larger homes being built, the character of the neighborhoods are changing.

According to St. Augustine Beach Building Department Director, Gary Larson, the new setbacks don’t necessarily make for larger homes. The square footage of the concrete on the first floor cannot exceed 35 percent of the of the square footage of the overall lot. The workshop is open to the public.
