Mahi Returns

Contributed: Mahi, a juvenile green sea turtle who was rehabilitated by The Georgia Sea Turtle Center, will have something to celebrate Tuesday, July 7. After more than two years of intensive rehabilitation and care, the GSTC with local partners will release Mahi at 1 p.m. on Vilano Beach in St. Augustine, Fla. The release can be joined at the Vilano Beach Pavilion and Oceanfront Park.   Parking is located at the town center and along AIA.

Riding The Wave Of Fun

Sunburn faces were the look for the surfers at last weeks Surf Camp, sponsored by The PIT surf Shop. Close to 20 youngsters took to the waves with surfboard under foot as they were instructed on the latest techniques from veteran surfers and camp counselors. With a ratio of 4 campers to each counselor, this surf camp is one of the most well respected in the area.

SUP Magazine at the Pier

East Coast Stand Up Paddle enthusiasts will enjoy a day at the pier for Camp SUP East Coast on Saturday, June 27th starting at 9AM until 4PM. Presented by Salt Life and SUP Magazine, this first time annual event will help build the sport of Stand Up Paddle. Bring the family and friends and enjoy a day at the pier pavilion and on the water. SUP locals and special guests will be on hand to teach you everything you ever wanted to know about SUP.

Flip-Flop Till You Drop In July

Flip-Flop Event planned for July

This years annual Flip-Flop Till You Drop event will take place on Saturday, July 11th. The walkers will meet up at 1PM at Jack’s on “A: St. There will be a blow out party and award ceremony at 5pm after the walk. This Flip-Flop event will once again raise funds for Kids Bridge, a supervised visitation center for kids and their parents. Last years event raised ten’s of thousands for Kids Bridge.

Beach Building On The Move

Building at the beach has increased immensely in the last two years. As of May 26, 2015 there were 37 active permits for single-family residences, with all permits being issued in 2014 and 2015.

Along with single-family homes, there are numerous businesses under construction. The Embassy Suites Hotel, being developed by Key North, LLC on the former Beach Front Resort is in the process of final approval for the plan of a 273 room hotel. The hotel is to be built in two phases, with 172 rooms in phase one and the remaining rooms being built in phase two. Key North has removed all debris from the property at 300 A1A Beach Blvd. and will be in front of the Planning and Zoning Board at their June 16th meeting.

It is because of the partnership with Community First that the Amphitheatreis able to provide this community entertainment at no charge.

Artist and art lovers alike took to the streets on Friday night for June’s First Friday Art Walk. The beach businesses are in the process of growing the art scene. Along with First Friday Art Walk, The Beach Arts Group holds a BAG Merchant Art Walk down A1A on the third Monday of every month. Businesses along the boulevard open their doors and tents are set up along the way.

A new restaurant has opened in Sea Grove Center. Terra & Acqua Restaurant (Terra for land and Acqua for sea) specializes in homemade Italian food with specialty pizzas. Italian cuisine is distinctly regional and owners Simone and Monica Parisi focus on the tastes of their childhood. Past owners of restaurants in Colorado, they wanted to get closer to the sea and St Augustine Beach was the perfect fit.
