Time To Light Up The Island

The pier was awash with light as hundreds came out to “Light up the Night” for the annual Surf Illumination. Sponsored by the St Augustine Beach Civic Association, this year’s festivities included food, music and of course a visit by Santa Clause.

The magic of the evening was set up especially for family fun. Almost every child ran with excitement when the saw the giant bounce house ready for them to take off their shoes and jump around.  Sparky the clown had a line of children all night long, waiting in anticipation as he created their balloon creature. The parents and grandparents did some early holiday shopping at the various craft booths set up along the path.

To the delight of many, holiday music could be heard the whole evening bringing a sense of festive cheer without the freezing snow!

As the sun went down everyone waited in anticipation for the big tree lighting. With a countdown led by St Augustine Beach Mayor Samuels, the switch was hit and illuminated the Christmas tree as cheers could be heard throughout the park.

A trip home had families counting and admiring the magical lighted wire silhouettes set on the light posts on A1A Beach Blvd. A ships lantern, a starfish, a ships wheel, a shell and more were lit up bringing beachy-holiday magic once again to the beach.
